I’ve always been interested in history; the Egyptians, the Romans and Genghis Khan spurred my curiosity of the past. But, I don’t have to go back that far to be enthralled. Over my last 4 years living in Rossland BC (I grew up 1 hour away but visited only 3 times previous) I’ve learned of the ski history that has probably affected my own life more than I know. Rossland’s historic cabins have been the centre of the developing ski culture here.
Rossland is where skiing started in Western Canada, where powder has been a motivation for life over the last century. Around RED Mountain Resort, cabins still exist from before the time of the resort and they offer a glimpse into what life was like back in the day. The greatest thing is that the love for snow hasn’t changed.
